**SUMMARY**
University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. is currently looking for a Plumbing/Piping Estimator for our Tempe, AZ location. The Plumbing/Piping Estimator is responsible for all phases of the estimating and bidding process including preconstruction services and performing estimate take-offs. Thorough knowledge of the mechanical construction bidding processes is required. Specific expertise with Plumbing, Mechanical Piping, and HVAC systems serving healthcare, institutional, commercial, high rise, clean rooms, and process systems for microelectronics facilities is a major plus. 3 to 6 years of Plumbing and Mechanical Piping Estimating experience and proficiency in the preparation of large and complex bid proposals required. Mechanical Engineering Degree or Construction Management Degree from Accredited College/University preferred.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.
+ The Plumbing/Piping Estimator is responsible for producing mechanical estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements.
+ Review and understand all of the project bid documents.
+ Responsible for quantity take-off, material, equipment and subcontractor pricing, spreadsheet input, and proposal preparation using Quick Pen estimating software.
+ Work on-site and/or in the main office, collaborating with various professionals on design-assist projects, including design firms providing mechanical engineering and design assistance.
+ Work as a team with other estimators, project teams, and other departments, such as our CAD detailing staff.
+ Manage the developing project mechanical designs to budget and must have knowledge regarding safety, worker’s compensation, insurance and bonding, materials as it pertains to bidding requirements.
+ Attend pre-bid or team scope review meetings and understand the complete scope of work required, with sometimes limited information.
+ Visit construction project sites for job walks and meetings in the Greater Phoenix area.
+ Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.
+ This position has limited opportunity for remote work.
**QUALIFICATIONS**

**PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
+ Minimum of 3 to 6 years Mechanical Construction Estimating experience and proficiency in the preparation of large and complex bid proposals of all types.
+ Professional experience that demonstrates specific expertise with Plumbing, Mechanical Piping, and HVAC systems serving healthcare, institutional, commercial, industrial manufacturing, data centers, clean rooms, and process systems for microelectronics facilities is a major plus.

Primary Responsibilities:
· Perform all-position MIG welding to weld aluminum truck and trailer ramps, fenders, and other truck and trailer components.
· Interpret and carry out work orders, blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
· Properly clamp parts into jigs or holding fixtures.
· Clean burrs, spatter, and weld flux from assemblies.
· Hand count material for inventory purposes.
· Wear and maintain protective clothing and equipment including a welding helmet, welding gloves, cotton clothing, safety glasses and steel toe safety shoes.
· Follow all safety practices during assembly and production operations and ensure work areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Successfully completed a plant-administered welding test.
· Regular attendance is essential.
Work Environment:
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, for example working around moving parts, machines, fumes, or irritating chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves, or shields.
Physical Demands:

**Description**
+ Will be fabricating structural steel, which is heavy grade steel.
+ Will be doing flux core dual shield welding and welding with thick 332 wire.
+ Must be able to read a tape measure to 1/16" of an inch.
+ Able to read shop drawings and weld symbols along with having a strong knowledge of common welding shop tools.
+ Fitters will be reading the blueprints all the welders have to do is read the weld symbols.
