Job Title: Phlebotomist III - Anthem
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist III to join our team. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks related to blood draws, specimen handling, and data maintenance. You will be responsible for ensuring that all specimens are collected and stored properly according to established procedures.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
+ Record maintenance data and decontaminate work areas as needed.
+ Update patient information and ensure proper documentation.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Understand and follow physicians' orders meticulously.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes for accuracy.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test orders.
+ Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100% correctly.
+ Package specimens appropriately for transport.
+ Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department training sessions.
+ Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results when necessary.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and blood draws.
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
Work Environment
This position is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) where you will work alongside one or more phlebotomists to draw outpatients. You will manage the entire process from entering the doctor's order in the computer system to verifying insurance, taking copays or payments, drawing blood, and preparing specimens for courier pick-up. The work hours are from 7 AM to 4 PM M-F.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.59/hr.
