**Responsibilities**
**Position Summary:**
A WIC peer counselor is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Two (2) years recent customer service experience.
+ High school diploma/GED.
+ Attends breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor.
+ Work towards attainment of certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator(CLE) within one year of hire.
+ Must be an active listener and demonstrate compassion for breastfeeding clients.
+ Must attend a series of breastfeeding classes, observe outpatient lactation consultants, and read assigned books and materials about breastfeeding.
+ Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help breastfeeding clients enjoy a positive experience.
+ Has reliable transportation.
+ DRV LIC = Current driver's license
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Be a former or current WIC client with breastfeeding experience.
+ Has breastfed at least one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).

**Pay Range**
$17.12 - $23.54 /hour
