Special Information

• This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
• This position is posted as LWC Program Coordinator, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Academic Program Coordinator, Intermediate.

Job Description

The Academic Program Coordinator, Intermediate plays an essential role in operations of the Lumberjack Writing Center (LWC). The LWC serves all NAU students, faculty and staff by offering writing-related support services. The LWC's goals are to:

• Improve student writing across the disciplines
• Support faculty and staff in their own writing as well as in teaching writing to students across the disciplines
• Foster a campus-wide culture that values excellent writing

The LWC does this by providing individual and group writing support, writing support courses, workshops and bootcamps, faculty professional development events, faculty consultations and more. The LWC Coordinator, Intermediate will play an active role in carrying out the job functions and duties below in an interactive, supportive, and team-focused environment.

Management and Administrative Oversight - 40%

• Oversee daily operations of the LWC's physical and online locations.
• Perform advanced administrative work such as hiring and payroll.
• Monitor program budget for program expenditures; advise department leadership on discrepancies with expenditures.
• Distribute, collect, and process forms and documents related to the LWC.
• Assist in managing and coordinating WConline (the LWC's scheduling system), Canvas course shells, Slack, the LWC's website, and other software/technologies
• Monitor phone calls and email messages; respond to messages in a timely matter.
• Monitor program performance and metrics and assist with data collection for annual reports.

Supervision & Training - 25%

• Assist with the supervision of GTAs and student workers daily, ensuring they are present for scheduled shifts; manage absences and tardies as appropriate.
• Assist the Associate director in evaluating all GTAs and student workers annually and identifying/resolving emergent issues that may arise.
• Create and maintain files with required and pertinent information for GTAs and student workers.

Scheduling Assistance - 20%

• Support the University Writing Program Associate Director: Lumberjack Writing Center in scheduling and administering ENG 100 and 405 for up to 400 students annually.
• Create the master schedule for all writing center locations, including online appointments, and schedule GTAs and student workers for their shifts each semester, including winter and summer sessions.
• Manage ENG 100 and ENG 405 sections via Coursedog.

Recruitment & Student Support - 5%

• Assist with the coordination of efforts to advertise university-wide program resources and activities through design, writing, and research; and present materials at student events for the program's university-wide campus and online presence.

Collaborations & Partnerships - 5%

• Engage with national organizations and monitor emerging trends and effective practices for writing centers.
• Assist the Associate Director as requested with collaborative writing related events and initiatives, such as student bootcamps and workshops.

Other - 5%

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field, and
• 2-4 years of relevant experience, or
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English or closely related field.
• Experience working with Writing Centers.
• Experience in leadership or supervisory positions.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations on campus and in the community.
• Experience with online appointment schedulers, such as WCONLINE.
• Experience with web design.
• Administrative support experience in an educational/academic environment.
• Ability to learn new and use software and technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures, related to the UWC.
• Knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the ability to adjust for a diverse audience and purpose.
• Knowledge of basic writing center practice and theories.
• Knowledge of budgeting and account reconciliation principles.
• Knowledge of organizational practices and principles.
• Experience with program coordination and execution.
• Skills with marketing.
• Skills with designing and leading presentations and training sessions.
• Ability to coordinate activities, evaluate data, and establish priorities.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to practice good judgment and professionalism.
• Ability to communicate effectively with and develop and maintain professional working relationships with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. Salary

Salary range begins at $44,057. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
