    The Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University serves more than 2,500 undergraduate majors across six bachelor-degree programs. The department has more than 100 students enrolled in graduate programs, both at the MS and PhD levels. With a strong tradition of teacher-scholars, the Department of Biological Sciences has research strengths in many areas of Biology, including Physiology, Ecology, Evolution, and Ecosystems Science, and Microbiology.     About the Position

    Individuals are invited to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Wildlife Biology/Organismal Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University (NAU). We are seeking an individual with the expertise to teach courses in our Wildlife Management Certificate, oversee the vertebrate collection, and with related research interests in Wildlife Biology/Organismal Biology. This position starts on August 2025 and is a 9 month tenure-track faculty position.

    Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the BS, MS, and PhD programs in the Biological Sciences through teaching undergraduate and graduate-level classes in biology, for an example: wildlife management, conservation biology, animal behavior, ornithology, mammalogy, and/or herpetology. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to effective undergraduate teaching utilizing inclusive, data-driven pedagogies.

    Candidates should also exhibit an ability to establish an active and welcoming research program that centers around the mentoring of NAU undergraduate and graduate students that leads to peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding from state and federal agencies.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to engage in outreach to agencies and tribes to promote the university's mission and values, and serve on department, college, and university committees as fitting a tenure-track position.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • offer existing and new classes in the Department of Biological Sciences and in support of the Wildlife Certificate;
    • serve as supervisor of the Vertebrate Collection and potential expansion;
    • develop a research program in Biology;
    • obtain external funding to support research and the Vertebrate Collection;

    Minimum Qualifications

    • PhD with a research emphasis in Wildlife Biology or Organismal Biology, specifically mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, or a combination of those fields by the date of appointment.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Anticipated salary range is $70,000 to $70,850. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

    This is a Faculty (FAC) position.
