    Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in shelter medicine. This appointment can be tenure-track or clinical-track, depending on the applicant's goals. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will provide clinical instruction to students on shelter medicine rotations and rotating interns, will help develop and implement a comprehensive shelter medicine program, will participate in mobile spay/neuter and TNR events, and will provide instruction to students in didactic courses and clinical skills laboratories within the DVM curriculum.

    The CVM is housed in Cactus Wren Hall and the Animal Health Institute, and includes the Departments of Pathology and Population Medicine, Equine Medicine and Surgery, Primary Care, Shelter and Community Medicine, and Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Cactus Wren Hall is a new facility with ample classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, conference rooms, and offices. The Animal Health Institute is comprised of The Companion Animal Clinic, the Equine and Bovine Center, and the Necropsy and Pathology Center. Shelter and Community Medicine faculty are part of the Department of Small Animal Primary Care, Shelter and Community Medicine, and the clinical arm of the program includes the operation of a mobile small animal clinic and “pop-up” clinic. The mobile clinic is a state-of-the-art, 33’ long, 2016 La Boit specialty vehicle provisioned with a generator, climate control, two surgical tables, two anesthesia machines, an oxygen concentrator, active gas scavenger, medical refrigerator, exam/prep table, desk, multiple secure storage cabinets and 12 animal holding cages. It is used to provide mobile spay and neuter surgeries, minor surgical procedures, wellness exams, minor medical procedures and field medical diagnostics. The FORTS fold-out shelter (“pop-up”) is a 16x16’ two-room portable building that operates as a community medicine clinic and animal holding space adjunctive to the mobile clinic. It is set up with three exam tables, two in the main area and one in the separate cat exam room. In addition, shelter medicine faculty work with regional partners in a number of shelter and community outreach facilities throughout the Phoenix Valley.

    The Companion Animal Clinic is a modern and innovative veterinary hospital for small animals. The 110,000 sq. ft. building contains state-of-the-art surgical, dental, and intensive care facilities. The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, fluoroscopy, C-arm, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and arthroscopy equipment. In addition to outstanding clinical facilities and equipment, the Companion Animal Clinic houses a pharmacy, a large and well-equipped surgery teaching laboratory, simulated examination rooms for clinical communications training using standardized clients/patients, and ample conference and small-group meeting rooms. The facility also includes full-service clinical pathology and microbiology laboratories and a small animal rehabilitation area. Adjacent to the Companion Animal Clinic is the Equine and Bovine Center, a large animal teaching facility housing small herds of cattle and horses, and the Necropsy and Pathology Center, a diagnostic pathology laboratory that supports the AHI and outside veterinarians.

    The Clinical Care Faculty (CCF) must have earned a DDS/DMD degree. An Arizona License and DEA License are also required. The applicant should be conversant in modern digital technologies, techniques, and dental materials.

    Reporting to the Clinical Care Coordinator (CCC) of the respective suite, the CCF will:

    + Advise the CCC on college-wide academic issues to assist in moving the institution to its vision of academic excellence

    + Maintain an open-door policy on the part of administrators and faculty for students in need of counseling

    + Establish a welcoming atmosphere to improve morale and to promote collegiality among students, staff and faculty

    + Be a positive role model for students

    + Become competent in the use of the EHR systems

    + Become competent in the use of CAD/CAM dentistry

    + Maintain/obtain a standard proficiency laser certification

    + Demonstrate competency in the restoration of dental implants

    + Advise students on professional conduct and practice management and assist the faculty and staff of their suite with solving patient-related problems

    + Meet periodically with individual students and groups of students to:

    + Review practice plan

    + Review patient resources

    + Review individual and group progress

    + Assist in establishing group goals

    + Provide the CCC information (based on meetings with students and staff) necessary to assure equitable distribution of patients based on students’ needs

    + Evaluate each student’s Professionalism and Practice Management skills by reporting instances of misconduct, patient abandonment, refusal to comply with established protocol, or disregard for the patients’ welfare first to the suite CCC and then to the Associate Dean for Clinical Education

    + Report to the CCC, then the Associate Dean for Clinical Education instances when faculty or staff attempts to correct misconduct have failed

    + Determine student compliance with departmental expectations and periodically review same with the student

    + Assist all students in assigned suite with quality patient care

    + Demonstrate clinical treatment on patients assigned to students

    + Under the direction of the CCC, attempt to equalize student learning opportunities; this may be achieved by initial input into patient assignments and by redistribution of patients within the pool of patients as well as advise on priorities, use of time, and need for new patients

    + In collaboration with the CCC, use EHR reports to inform faculty and students of the real costs of care delivery and establish realistic targets for production and collections in the spirit of sound practice management principles to enhance student education as well as clinical productivity

    + Under the direction of the CCC, conduct an entrance conference with all new students to assess patient rosters and assure a smooth transition into the clinic

    + Assure all case completions have an exit exam

    Teaching

    + Participate in curricular planning and review meetings, and faculty retreats.

    + Develop, implement, and assess the curriculum as faculty in the pre-clinical courses.

    + Teach clinical lectures, including developing the associated learning objectives and examination questions.

    + Actively participate in the 4-year teaching program in AZCOM, which may include OMM labs, physical examination and ultrasound workshops, SOAP note grading, OSCE’s, and precepting in the MWU multispecialty clinic for students, Scholars, and residents.

It is set up with three exam tables, two in the main area and one in the separate cat exam room. In addition, shelter medicine faculty work with regional partners in a number of shelter and community outreach facilities throughout the Phoenix Valley.

    The Companion Animal Clinic is a modern and innovative veterinary hospital for small animals. The 110,000 sq. ft. building contains state-of-the-art surgical, dental, and intensive care facilities. The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, fluoroscopy, C-arm, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and arthroscopy equipment. In addition to outstanding clinical facilities and equipment, the Companion Animal Clinic houses a pharmacy, a large and well-equipped surgery teaching laboratory, simulated examination rooms for clinical communications training using standardized clients/patients, and ample conference and small-group meeting rooms.     Description

    The Speech-Language Pathology Program at Midwestern University in Glendale Arizona invites applications for a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education. A faculty member in the Speech-Language Pathology Program has responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service which will include evidence-based classroom instruction, clinical education in area of expertise, development of a productive line of scholarship and active participation on Program committees. The Director of Clinical Education role includes responsibilities in clinical education and leadership, recordkeeping and communication, and quality monitoring, including overseeing the placement of students into clinical practicum placements throughout the program. The DCE will assist the Advanced Practicum Coordinator with individualized placement of students into educational and healthcare advanced practicum rotations and will work collaboratively with other program leadership and faculty to ensure high quality clinical education is provided throughout the curriculum.

    Applicants must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related area, certification in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA CCC-SLP) and must hold or be eligible for state licensure in Arizona. An earned doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology or related discipline, prior university academic or clinical teaching experience, scholarly productivity, and professional service will enhance the candidate’s application. The candidate must possess leadership and supervisory skills, excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks well, good judgment and a professional demeanor. This individual should also possess strong organizational, relationship management and administrative skills to carry out the duties of the position.
